Pravodhana, or Enlightenment, is an NGO which was established in 2014 in Tezpur. Formed by a group of social workers comprising doctors, lawyers, conservationists, and businessmen, its motto is to Engage, Observe, and Discover.
Pravodhana works in the fields of skill development, renewable energy, health, women empowerment, and Education for Sustainable Development. One of its primary focus areas is to support and enable the women of the northeast to conserve their rich heritage of weaving.
Pravodhana supports women weavers in rural and remote areas by providing them with yarn. Besides paying them wages, it extends a share of the profits made by the sale of the commissioned products. This results in the cultural and economic empowerment of the women.
Pravodhana’s baby steps are leading to its engagement with a variety of marginalized people. While observing their strengths and challenges, it seeks to discover a new model of development where equity reigns supreme.
